Reliving Live Aid: The Unforgettable Concert That United the World 40 Years Ago

Yesterday, four decades ago (1985), I think mostly everyone was parked in front of their TVs watching Live Aid

The event united musicians and fans alike in the fight against famine in Ethiopia, raising over $100 million for relief efforts.

As a teenager, witnessing all of these legendary musicians... the very artists that filled my childhood home with their music... came together on one stage, on one day, was nothing short of musical heaven. Watching the entire event unfold on our Zenith TV was a magical and awe-inspiring experience, one that I will never forget!

The legendary concert featured an incredible lineup including Queen, Sade, Boomtown Rats, Paul McCartney, Tina Turner, U2, Sting, Duran Duran, Simple Minds, B.B. King, Black Sabbath feat. Ozzy Osbourne, Ashford and Simpson, Elton John, David Bowie, Phil Collins, Madonna, George Michael, Howard Jones, The Pretenders, INXS, Spandau Ballet, Brian Ferry and countless others.

Twenty years later, in 2005, I watched it all over again on DVD... a gift from my Mom!

The right cover is blue and shows the Live 8 logo for the July 2, 2005 concert, also with a guitar-shaped Africa and the silhouette of a child.
Then, five years later in March, 2025, I saw the Broadway play, Just for One Day, the Live Aid musical: https://theliveaidmusical.com with my teenage ( I met them when I was 12) friends and their teen kids. It was easily one of my all-time favourite plays of ALL times.

It was a reminder of the lasting impact that Live Aid had, not just on me but on generations that followed.
