Halloween is all about creativity, laughter, and a frightful good time. From Google's top trending costumes to funny Canadian gift ideas, find inspiration for witches, zombies, and superheroes... and to honour loved ones on Día de los Muertos.
Halloween is creeping up fast! With the big night falling on Saturday, October 31, Canadians have been busy searching for costume inspiration.
Back in my trick-or-treat days, we threw on whatever was in the house. One year, I grabbed my dad's suit... cue Herb Tarlek, WKRP in Cincinnati for my Halloween costume. No Google Trends, no Pinterest, just pure improvisation and doing the DIY costume thing! Those were the days... and these are the days, too, just a little different.
I just have to figure out a costume for my Pooch. How about... cue the music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjxNnqTcHhg
... Popcorn... not the sock part? 🧦😆

What Canadians are searching for this year
Hocus Pocus is the top trending movie searched alongside "costume" this September, so witches are back on the charts. Searches for "liminal space" hit an all-time high in Canada after the Backrooms craze, and "whimsical Halloween decor" became a breakout trend this past month.
Our pooch isn't the only one getting dressed up. Across Canada, searches for "dog costume" nearly doubled searches for "kid costume," with Scooby-Doo, banana, and hot dog leading the pack. For makeup, Furina from Genshin Impact leads the searches, followed by vampire, devil, and skulls.

💀 After Halloween: From Spooky to Soulful
As October fades and November begins, the mood shifts from spooky to soulful. Día de los Muertos reminds us to pause, light a candle, and smile for those who came before us.
After Halloween, we need to remember our loved ones and celebrate their spirit with colour, kindness, and maybe a sweet treat or two.
To learn more about this beautiful tradition, visit Día de los Muertos: Wikipedia and read how it's celebrated in Canada in Remitly's Día de los Muertos Guide.
