Goodbye!

A small word. An earlly spring... a new season. And the quiet understanding that some goodbyes arrive whether we’re ready or not.

A gloved hand pressed against a glass door on a snowy winter day, reflecting on Groundhog Day predictions and the changing of seasons.

Goodbye.
Good plus bye equals goodbye. Such a small, powerful word.

We say goodbye to a friend.

To an age, when you have a birthday.

To an educator when you complete a grade.
To the last page of a book we’ve just finished.
When the credits roll at the end of a movie.
To a worn-out piece of clothing...

We might say goodbye to winter early, with the prognosticating groundhogs weighing in.

This just in!

“ With 70 years of experience, Wiarton Willie predicts an early spring, but Punxsutawney Phil disagrees.” But are these rodents going to fight? No, because they are nice!

There are countless versions of goodbye.

"Goodbye" started out as a blessing. It is derived from the expression "God be with ye" (or "God be with you"), which was softened and shortened over time, taking on forms such as "godbwye" before evolving into the modern "goodbye.

And last, but not least, then there is the goodbye you know is final.

On that note:
So long.
Pip pip.
Cheerio.

Until next time.
Goodbye.
