Fun family friendly ideas to ring in 2024 in the Greater Toronto Area

There are 364 other days to go to bed early. To us oldies: Stay awake, at least to midnight, to ring in the New Year... whaaat 2024!

Here are some fun events in the GTA: Toronto, PickeringScarboroughStouffville, Richmond Hill, Markham and Hamilton.

1. NEW YEAR'S EVE COMEDY EXTRAVAGANZA at Massey Hall:

    Get ready to ring in the New Year with uproarious laughter at the most hilarious      comedy night of the year! Join us on New Year's Eve for a side-splitting              evening that will have you laughing your way into 2024. Why not laugh in the       New Year? Hahaha! What more do you need?

2. City of Toronto: Cavalcade of Lights:

  Time: 6:00-11:00pm
  Where: Nathan Phillips Square, 100 Queen Street West, Toronto

3. Pickering New Year’s Eve:

    Time: 6:30 - 8:30

    Celebrate New Year’s Eve at Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex. Enjoy free swim and skate for all ages, along with family friendly activities in the Recreation Complex lobby. Join Mayor Ashe and Council for a memorable countdown, marking the beginning of the new year.

4. Toronto Zoo:

    Time: 10:00 am Sumatran Tiger - Eurasia Wilds - Carcass Feed
    2:00 pm Lake Malawi Cichlids - African Rainforest Pavilion

5. The Distillery Winter Village:

     Time: 7:00 pm - midnight
    Where: Distillery Historic District, 9 Trinity Street, Toronto

6. Noon Year’s Eve at the Ontario Science Centre:

   Time: Party when the clock strikes 12 (noon, that is), celebrate the new year      with science! 

7. Whitchurch-Stouffville New Year’s Eve:

   Time: The fireworks start nice and early at 7:00pm, plus there’s exciting                 entertainment on the main stage and free hot beverages.

8. Richmond Hill First Night New Year’s Eve:

Join the family-friendly afternoon New Year’s party at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts. It features an indoor kids concert, outdoor activities such as free skating on Glice Synthetic Ice, tasty treats and an early countdown.

   Time: Free Indoor Show: 2 - 3 p.m.
   Outdoor Activities: 3 - 6 p.m.
   Location: Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts

9. Toronto Union Station: TD Union Winter: 

    Time: 1:00pm-12:30am, New Years Day 1:00-8:00pm

     Toronto Union Station gets the party going through the holiday season                   and into the new year with TD Union Winter. Inside the newly opened TD               West Carriageway, ring in 2024 at the New Year’s Eve party at the Roller              Express, filled with live music, fun activities, good eats, and special prize                giveaways.

10. Markham: NYE IN DTM Countdown and Fireworks:
   Time: Downtown Markham’s party kicks off at 9:00pm with a live music by a           local classic rock band. Then, the Town Crier leads the countdown to midnight,     followed by a fireworks show.

11. Bronte Creek Provincial Park: Coyote Howl and Kids Countdown:
    Time: Howl in the New Year at Bronte Creek, where a park naturalist leads a          Coyote Howl guided walk to learn more about these misunderstood creatures.      Then, gather around the bonfire, roast some marshmallows and join a kids NYE countdown at 8:30pm.

12. Skating at The Bentway: Hey fun-seekers! For one of winter’s best activities, outdoor ice skating under the Gardiner is now open!

Time:  12:00 pm - 9:00 pm

13. Holiday Nights of Lights @ Scarborough Town Centre: 

     Holiday Nights of Lights is an immersive walk-through experience like none   other, featuring more than 1.5 million LED lights animated and synchronized to everyone’s favourite Holiday tunes.

14. Happy Hours first ever: Speed Dating Ages 25-35(Steel Town Cider):

     Time:  2 - 4pm 

This is for all the wannabe lovebirds in Hamilton! You never know; you might meet the love of your life on the last day of 2023.😍

14. Everywhere: See a movie:

      Time:Try to see an early show to be home to ring in the new year.

 In the new years of the past, my mom took us to see Tootsie and Rain Man.       Yes, there is a theme here; Dustin Hoffman is in both movies.
