Laughs, Memories, and Leg Lamps: Why A Christmas Story Endures
Released in 1983 but set in the late 1940s, the movie was actually filmed in Toronto, Canada (The Christmas tree lot scene was filmed on a vacant lot at 238 Queen Street West. That lot was the site of a nightclub named Dance Mac, which has since closed. The flat tire scene ("Only I didn't say fudge...") was shot on the Cherry Street Strauss Trunnion Bascule Bridge in Toronto. The interior shots of the Parker home were also filmed on a soundstage in Scarborough.), despite its quintessentially American setting. The film has become a beloved holiday tradition for many folks. With its memorable characters, witty dialogue, and nostalgic setting, the movie captures the essence of childhood during Christmastime. From Ralphie's iconic pink bunny suit to the infamous "triple dog dare" on a frozen flagpole, the film is full of classic moments that continue to delight audiences of all ages.
