Celebrate Robbie Burns Day 2021!

Happy Robbie Burns Day 2021!

Even though Robert Burns passed away at the age of 37 of rheumatic heart disease, he is always remembered every year. Robbie Burns Day is celebrated as a Scottish national holiday on January 25th. On this day, not only Scots honour his poetic life and spirit but people all around the world. Celebrations include: playing bagpipes, reading his poetry, feasting on traditional Scottish food, such as Haggis and dressing in a kilt and other other Scottish attire. If you haven’t celebrated Robbie Burns Day before, why not, it’s a lot of fun!

A Red, Red Rose – Robert Burns (1794)

O my Luve is like a red, red rose
   That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve is like the melody
   That’s sweetly played in tune.
So fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
   So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
   Till a’ the seas gang dry.
Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
   And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
I will love thee still, my dear,
   While the sands o’ life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only luve!

   And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my luve,
   Though it were ten thousand mile.
If you aren’t Scottish you can always pretend with the Scot in the Box costume kit and join in the Robbie Burns celebrations!
